Inner-City Children in Sharper Focus

In this chapter the researcher used photo elicitation with children of intercity California. With consent from parents the researcher was able to give the children disposable cameras to take photos they thought were meaningful. The researcher wanted to obtain information of social context of these children. First children set the terms of linguistics and had no set interview schedules. Second children's cognitive development is matched with the type of info that may elicited. Kids used memories in way that care different from verbal based interviews. Thirdly since children read interviews not much is used when it comes to question answer setting.

Using photo elicitations can be complicated and tricky depending on what children take photo of. Also, keep in mind parents might want to structure the way the children take photos. Children can also be able to condense the photos and take out any that are not meaningful or not relevant to them before the researcher has look at any data. Once researcher has gotten pictures back one must code and find same general similarities among the group, in order to answer research questions.
