In this chapter the author wants to let us know when using or taking pictures one must proceed with caution because, there are many misconceptions that pictures do not lie. The harsh reality is that pictures can be manipulated in a way that they aren't,in sections of time, places and people, can be angled, framing and tonality that might suggest a different reality. The author wants to be sure we are aware that all photos lie: A photo under the most technical ideal, well-intended circumstances can never represent its reality. The viewer should not approach an image with the assumption that it represents it reality. When viewing a photo must start with a minimal awareness of the technical aspects of the image, acquisition, processing and presentation followed by understanding of the cultural context (making not easily quantified).
Cameras cannot replicate human vision due to being 2 diminutional clips of time, this does not compute like our eyes in 3 dimensional live capture. The photo cannot capture the complexity of our vision, due to the way our eyes compute colors images and shapes. Pictures can be manipulated in order to attempt to capture specific light or be changed to give a dramatic setting which our eyes do not. In humans vision their a specific dept. of field which is always changing and we can only see so far before it becomes blurry. In comparison cameras can see further due to interchangeable lenses, they also can distort the image in a way that changes the whole image that our eyes do not have the capability of doing.
